The Hamaka spirit
The word Hamaka comes from the Taíno people, the first inhabitants of the Caribbean. It described the hammocks they wove from natural fibers — designed for rest above the ground, in harmony with the elements. This simple, ingenious way of living travelled across the islands and took root in everyday St Barth, where families in traditional wooden cases often slept in hammocks that could be gathered away by day to make room for life to unfold.
For us, Hamaka is more than a name — it is a philosophy. It honors the quiet traditions of the island, where rest, connection, and simplicity shaped the rhythm of daily life. Just as the hammock came to symbolize comfort and ease, Hamaka carries these values into the way we guide our guests through the island's most refined homes.
